The Granada Lantern: New Electric Design

The Granada: A New Electric Lantern with a Taller Silhouette

Published as part of the Flambeaux Lighting New Designs series.

Most of our lanterns follow familiar proportions. The Granada doesn’t. It’s a close relative of our England lantern, but stretched taller and finished with a pair of finials that give it a shape you don’t see on a standard fixture.

What Makes the Granada Different

We started with the England lantern, a silhouette that’s been in our catalog for years, and elongated the body. Then we added a finial at the top and another at the bottom, both machined to carry the taller proportions all the way through the fixture.

This one hangs on a gooseneck bracket, which projects it off the wall and adds to the overall height. On a wide facade or a tall entry, that extra reach keeps the lantern proportional to the space instead of getting lost against the wall.

Electric First

The Granada is launching in electric. A lot of customers know us for gas fixtures, but not every entry has a gas line, and electric gives you the same copper body, the same finish options, and the same bracket without needing one.

If you want the Granada in gas or propane, call us. We’ll walk through what that means for your specific wall and get it built to match.

Built to Order in Louisiana

Every Granada is hand-built in our Louisiana workshop, made to order once you place it. It’s available in all four of our finish options: Raw Copper, Aged Copper, Dark Oxidation, and Natural Weathered, so it can match the rest of your fixtures or stand on its own.

Gas Lantern Mounting on an Angled Wall

On-Site: Solving a Sloped Siding Mount for a Gas Lantern

Published as part of the Flambeaux Lighting How We Build It series, real solutions for real installation challenges.

This one comes straight from a job site. We went out to a customer’s home to walk through an installation that a box store lantern, or an imported one, simply couldn’t handle. Here’s what we ran into, and how we solved it.

The Problem: Siding That Doesn’t Sit Flat

The client wanted the lantern mounted directly to the siding. That’s a common request. What wasn’t common was the siding itself: large boards set at a noticeable angled slope.

A standard backplate is flat. Angled siding is not. Mount a flat plate against a sloped surface and the fixture doesn’t hang plumb, it leans. You get a gap at the top or bottom, uneven pressure on the fasteners, and a lantern that looks off the moment you step back from the wall.

The Fix: A Backplate Sloped to Match

We took the lantern’s mounting backplate and sloped it to meet the exact angle of this customer’s siding. Once it was against the wall, the fixture hung plumb, straight and level, the way it’s supposed to.

That’s not a stock part. It’s built to match the wall it’s going on. Every lantern we make can be adjusted this way, because we’re the ones building it, not just selling it out of a box.

Why You Won’t Get This From a Box Store

A big-box retailer or an imported lantern brand sells you what’s on the shelf. If your wall doesn’t match the plate, that’s your problem to solve on install day.

Flambeaux builds every lantern by hand in our Louisiana workshop, and we’re used to getting out on real job sites and solving what’s actually in front of us, not just what’s in the catalog. Angled siding, unusual wall depths, coastal hardware needs, we handle it as part of the order, not as an afterthought.
