Copper Lanterns

Understanding Copper Lantern Finishes

Which Finish Is Right for You?

At Flambeaux Lighting, every lantern is made by hand — right here in Louisiana. And because we manufacture each one ourselves, you’re not limited to off-the-shelf options. From custom brackets to exclusive finishes, you get more choices and more control when you buy direct.

One of the most important decisions you’ll make? Your lantern’s finish.

Whether you want a bright, living patina or a moody, modern look, here’s what sets our finishes apart — and how to choose the right one for your space.

Raw Copper – Let It Age Naturally

If you love the look of bright copper that evolves over time, our raw copper finish is for you. With no artificial patina or chemical aging, these lanterns darken and develop character over time.

It’s a living finish that feels timeless and honest — perfect for historic homes, traditional builds, or anyone who wants their lantern to tell a story.

Standard Aged – The Industry Standard

Our most popular finish, standard aged copper, gives you the look of a well-loved lantern from day one. We age the copper in-house using a consistent, time-tested process that creates a warm, matte finish with subtle variation.

It’s a classic look that works beautifully on everything.

Exclusive Dark Oxidized – Only from Flambeaux

Looking for something truly unique?

Our dark oxidized finish is a proprietary Flambeaux process — and you won’t find it anywhere else.

This deep, almost black patina gives your lantern a moody, oil-rubbed bronze look without losing the organic texture of copper.

It’s bold, dramatic, and only possible because we build everything ourselves. No middlemen. No prefab parts. Just real craftsmen creating finishes no one else can replicate.

Stainless Steel – Sleek, Coastal, and Clean

For coastal homes, contemporary builds, or commercial spaces, our stainless steel finish delivers a crisp, clean look with lasting durability. All of our lantern designs are available in stainless — so you never have to compromise style for function.

Buy Direct. Get More.

When you buy from Flambeaux, you’re not buying from a warehouse or a marketplace. You’re buying direct from the people who make it — and that means more options, better quality, and finishes you can’t get anywhere else.

Choosing the Perfect Flame for Your Gas Lantern

Do I Have Flame Options In My Lantern?

One of the most common questions we get at Flambeaux Lighting is:

“Do I get to choose the type of flame in my lantern?”

The answer: Yes — but only if you’re using natural gas.

We offer two flame options, and the right choice depends on the size of your lantern and the look you want to achieve.

Standard Burning Pilot Jet – Maximum Flicker, Minimal Maintenance

Our standard burning pilot jet is the go-to choice for most gas lanterns. It produces a flame approximately three inches tall and 1.5 inches wide, delivering the lively flicker that gas lanterns are famous for.

Why choose the standard jet?

  • Least maintenance required
  • Classic, high-flicker appearance
  • Ideal for most lantern sizes
  • Best balance of beauty and reliability

This is our most popular flame option because it brings that unmistakable New Orleans ambiance — perfect for both wall-mounted and hanging lanterns.

Magnolia Burner – A Bold, Decorative Flame

For larger lanterns or homeowners seeking a more dramatic statement, we offer the Magnolia burner. Available only with natural gas, this burner produces a broader, more decorative flame.

Key features:

  • Wider flame spread for larger fixtures
  • Soft, steady ambiance with less flicker
  • Perfect for statement lanterns or oversized mounts

The Magnolia burner is designed to shine in grand entryways, commercial spaces, or any area where a big, bold flame enhances the overall aesthetic.

Which Flame Is Right for You?

If you’re unsure, our team can guide you based on your lantern’s size and your personal preferences. Many customers prefer the classic flicker of the standard pilot jet, while others love the broad, elegant presence of the Magnolia flame for their larger fixtures.

Dark Oxidation Copper Finish

The Custom Lantern Finish You Can Only Get from Flambeaux

No Paint. No Powder Coat. Just Pure, Aged Copper.

There’s a big difference between something that looks aged — and something that is aged.

At Flambeaux, we’re the only manufacturer offering a true Dark Oxidation finish — a deep, bronzed patina achieved through a hand-applied chemical aging process. No shortcuts. No overseas knockoffs. And absolutely no paint.

What Makes Our Finish Different?

Most of what you see online marketed as “aged copper” or “oil-rubbed bronze” is a sprayed-on or powder-coated finish — a painted illusion that chips, peels, or fades.

Flambeaux’s Dark Oxidation finish is the real deal:

  • Made from solid copper — not a veneer or coating
  • Aged by hand in our Louisiana workshop
  • Chemically oxidized, not painted or coated
  • Continues to evolve over time based on your environment
  • Exclusive to Flambeaux — no other manufacturer offers this process

Each lantern is lightly oiled after oxidation, but that’s just a starting point. As the lantern adjusts to your space, the copper deepens, shifts, and takes on unique tones. It’s what we call a living finish — one that can’t be faked.

Why It Matters

When you choose a Flambeaux lantern, you’re not just choosing a look — you’re choosing authenticity. That means:

✔️ A finish that won’t chip or peel
✔️ A fixture that gets better with time
✔️ A style that can’t be mass-produced
✔️ A legacy piece you’ll be proud to display

From Our Workshop to Your Home
